The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.
When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge.
An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.
Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

The "bulk packaging" power adapter I received was fake. A good fake, but not authentic Apple hardware. The adapter's text was clearly an off color, and wasn't aligned properly when compared next to 2 authentic adapters. Grammar mistakes also showed it wasn't real, as did the ziplock sandwich bag the power cord came packaged in.

Amazon refunded, but stay away! Not official apple products.

I bought this charger thinking I could save a few bucks. It came and it was all scuffed and not very good looking. It looked like it had been opened and snapped back together. I figured I would try it anyway. It took all day to charge the computer. Even while I used the computer while it was charging, it seemed to be losing power. I then looked at the words on the charger. Apple came out with this type of charger in 2010 or 2011. The date on this charger, which is the new style, said it was made in the year 2007. That confirmed my suspicions about it. I immediately returned it and bought a real charger from Apple.

It only charges when plugged in 1 way instead of the other way now after only 2 weeks of use. Never had this problem with old charger which I unfortunately lost at college. I frequently use the computer where I like the have the charger come around the other side so that it does not block the ethernet port. This is no longer possible as it will not charge when plugged in that way only if plugged in the way so that it blocks the ports. It worked great for 2 weeks though I got the advertised item and item is great seems to be the original just mine didn't work.
